Home Birth

Families who choose home birth with a licensed midwife experience holistic, client centered care, with minimal interventions. During the birth your midwifery team monitors closely for potential complications, while providing physical and emotional support, all in the comfort of your home. You have 24/7 access to your midwifery team beginning at 37 weeks gestation through one week postpartum. The midwifery team you become familiar with prenatally arrives at your home in labor and stays with you through the immediate hours postpartum, providing expert care for you and your baby. Mountain Mamas midwives and birth assistants are certified in neonatal resuscitation and CPR and bring necessary medical equipment and emergency medications to every birth we attend.

Labor & Birth Doula

A doula provides continuous labor support and prenatal education, not only for the pregnant client, but the entire family. Her goal is to equip everyone involved with the knowledge and support necessary to feel confident about the upcoming birth. A doula advocates for your ideal birth as discussed and determined by you, during prenatal appointments.

Postpartum infant feeding support, information regarding basic newborn care, non judgmental emotional support, and birth story processing is provided.

Standard Doula Package

  • One hour complimentary consultation

  • 2-3 (one hour) prenatal visits in your home to discuss birth preferences, build a customized birth plan, and provide basic childbirth education.

  • 24/7 access to your doula beginning at 37 weeks gestation through 24 hours postpartum.

  • Continuous labor support

  • Two (1-2 hour) postpartum visits in your home to discuss infant care and feeding, postpartum recovery, and process your birth story.

Comprehensive Prenatal & Postpartum Care

Prenatally we provide comprehensive care on the standard obstetric schedule in the comfort of your home or our home office.  If you begin care in the first trimester, this typically includes thirteen visits, each visit lasting about one hour. Standard lab procedures are performed in the home, with referrals made for ultrasonography. We spend time getting to know the whole client and building a relationship based in trust; trust in the human body, trust in the natural process of labor and birth, and trust between the midwife and client. We encourage our clients to be involved in their health care and pregnancy journey; this means informed choice and education about all procedures, and unlimited time for questions.

Postpartum visits are scheduled in your home at 24-36 hours, three days, one week, two weeks, and fives weeks. Postpartum recovery and newborn well being is monitored at every visit, and referrals made when appropriate. You have 24/7 access to your midwife for emergencies and unlimited email access for questions. Standard postpartum visits include wellness and nutritional counseling, abundant time for questions, breastfeeding support, herbal remedies, basic physical exam, and infant weight checks.
